The ironic thing is that I didn't realize how lost I was until he found me. And now that he has, I have to wonder if he'll stay around long enough to catch me.

I loved "There Is No Light In Darkness" by Ms. Contreras, it was one of my favorites of 2013, so I eagerly downloaded this one. For me, it fell short of her other books.It took me a long time to warm up to Brooklyn, she's such a doormat! I wanted her to stand up to her parents just once. Even by the end of the book, I felt like there hadn't been in progress with her parents and I wanted something to happen there. I thought Brooklyn's backstory was heartbreaking and I really liked the parts of the book where she revisited her past.
Nick was a bit confusing. I felt like I wasn't getting the full story of him until after he and Brooklyn were together. Was he with Stephanie? That was never really answered, and I kept wanting him to stay away from Brooklyn because it seemed like he wasn't being honest. Once they were together, it was too much, too fast. There wasn't enough "get to know you" time.
The situation with Allie felt too unresolved. Allie was Brooklyn's BFF and then, what? It's just sort of glossed over. Did they come to some agreement, are they still friends, do they hate each other?
Hendrix and Nina were good characters, but I wish they had been fleshed out a little more. What happened with Hendrix and Sarah?
It isn't that I didn't like this book, it just felt unfinished to me. I still have unanswered questions. I am still a fan of Ms. Contreras, and I look forward to future books.

I don't see where all the good reviews come from on this book at all. It starts out so slow and Nick and Brooklyn act like a couple of kids in Jr High just staring at each other, him pulling her hair, nudging her shoulder and this is supposed to be them falling madly in love? This went on until about 45% of the book. It was just way too slow for my tastes and not enough time spent with them together as a couple for me to get into it. It was mostly about her past experience with drugs and her best friend than about the romance and not what I was expecting.
Brooklyn and Nick's story. Have not found a deep connection to the characters yet. Brooklyn seems immature for how successful she is. The dialogue of the daily activities is monotonous. Skip it and move on to the actual story which I have yet to find and I'm at chapter four.
There is too much over thinking with the words and repetition with explaining the meaning or intent behind the words.
The complements are done at an excessive level giving me the impression that Brooklyn has issues with her outer appearance.
The perpetual use to explain every look is insane. Too many fillers that I'm not sure there is a plot.
I realize this social lifestyle and upbringing has the pressures of drugs, alcohol, and sex. But Brooklyn blames all these things on here upbringing when actually it was her choice to fall into that path. Had she denied those things she could have risen above those pressures and beat the stereotypical social taboos.
Brooklyn's character could have done plenty differently with the jealousy but I think she enjoys the attention. All the begging and pleading is overdone trying to claim ownership of each other.
The story rambles on from one topic into another.
This story was emotionally draining and tiring to read. This story is about depression, pressure of being famous, and drugs.
This book is free on . It is my first book by this author and the writing was good. Its a little slow to get started and the main characters don't really get together until about 42%. She gives a lot of description and internal dialogue as she introduces the story which can be a little much and takes away from the main characters. There seems to be very little of the book between Brooklyn and Nick due to all the other elements regarding her family and I found myself skimming towards the end.
Brooklyn 25 is from a rich record label owner family. She has very little self esteem due to her model mother wanting her to be model perfect and their too busy lives to be parents. She has her own company but is intimidated into moving to NY to work for her fathers company recruiting talent. A microphone company seemed far fetched to me. Nick is a producer who is working with her old boyfriend Shea who she has ended any romantic relationship they had due to his inability to be with only just her. Brooklyn is fighting her past demons over the loss of her childhood friend 8 years ago so we are taken back in time to those events and find that was when Nick first met her when she was 15 and over dosing.
Nick and Brooklyn have to work through the insecurities of her past relationship with Shea. She feels no one wants to be with her except for her connections and he is jealous and doesn't want to share her with Shea. There really isn't a love triangle or any cheating in this book and they do get their HEA.
